This gorgeous bottling, by the specialist independents, Zhongsen Star, shows Glen Moray at its perfect age – mellow, mature, yet with a lovely balance of fruit and malt and oak.
Appearance:
Nice shiny copper appearance.
Aroma:
Quite a sharp prickly nose, indicating a high strength. Underripe orchard fruits, green apples and pears. Some soft honeysuckle and menthol eucalyptus later with damp balsa wood.
Taste:
Baked apple and pear crumble with lashings of rich creamy custard. Some warming spices initially (mace, cinnamon, cardamon) then some more green eucalyptus bark. Minty aftereights chocolates towards the finish.
Comment:
Enjoyable. A classic fruity and juicy Glen Moray.
Glen Moray, in the heart of Elgin, is one of the jewels of Speyside malt whisky. Speyside is home to more single malt whisky distilleries than any other region in Scotland, so it says much for the historic quality of Glen Moray that it’s held in such high regard by afficionados. Famously rich and rounded in character and unpeated so as to extract maximum sweet, rich, honeyed flavour from the malt and cask.
